Our humanity-first philosophy

Better with technology.
Grounded in humanity.

Professionalism means seeing clearly, thinking carefully, and taking responsibility for what we say and do. AI can help us slow down, filter noise, sharpen our thinking, and communicate clearly. At Sheffield, we use technology to support well-informed judgment while keeping our own voice, decisions, and accountability.

Our evolving framework

Seven elite human skills

Our current framework brings together four skills for working with information and three for working with people. Together, they connect clear thinking with the ability to communicate, influence, and earn trust.

We’re continuing to refine this framework through feedback.

01—04Working with information

01Attention ManagementReclaim your focus so you can think clearly and give important work your full attention.

Notifications, open tabs, and AI-generated content compete for attention throughout the day. We teach people to reclaim their attention as a discipline, not an accident, because clear thinking starts with the ability to focus. Everything else in this framework builds on that foundation.

02Active Listening & Close ReadingUnderstand what people mean and what the information actually says before responding.

A summary can help you move faster, but understanding still takes care: noticing a hesitation, questioning an assumption, or reading beyond the headline. As more information arrives already summarized, close listening and careful reading help professionals understand the decisions clients are trusting them to make.

03Critical Thinking & JudgmentEvaluate answers, challenge assumptions, and turn information into sound judgment.

An instant answer still needs evaluation. Is it accurate? Does it address the right question? What might it have missed? We develop the habit of examining information, challenging assumptions, and deciding when to trust an answer and when to investigate further. Judgment is the skill that turns AI output into real insight.

04Prioritization & Decision-MakingDecide what matters and where to act, even when information is incomplete.

More information can make a decision harder. With more data, dashboards, and options available, professionals need to identify what matters now. We help people prioritize and make considered decisions under pressure, including when the information is incomplete.

05—07Working with people

05Clear and Concise CommunicationDistill a complex idea into a clear point people can understand and use.

Generating more words is easy. Giving someone a clear, useful point takes discipline. We teach professionals to distill complex ideas, respect their audience’s attention, and communicate what matters in a way people can understand and act on.

06InfluenceFrame ideas so people understand their value and feel ready to act.

An idea needs more than supporting information to move forward. It needs to be framed for the people making the decision. We help professionals present what they know with clarity and purpose, connecting their ideas to the concerns and priorities of the people they need to reach.

07Executive Presence & Emotional IntelligenceBring composure, confidence, and awareness to the conversations that matter.

Digital work makes it especially important to practice the skills of direct human interaction: reading a room, navigating a difficult conversation, and staying composed under scrutiny. We develop the presence and emotional awareness that help professionals build trust in those moments.

The Risk of Doing Nothing

The world is moving faster than most people or organizations can handle. In the age of AI, it's easy to fall behind without even realizing it, and easy to sit on the sidelines, feeling helpless. If the skills aren't intentionally developed, strengthened, and refined, the risks are real.

  1. People consistently refer to and agree with AI without critical thinking.

  2. Original thinking gets replaced by recycled ideas.

  3. Insights become superficial, masquerading as profound.

  4. Authentic voice gets lost, and everyone starts sounding the same.

  5. It becomes unclear who owns the actual work.

  6. Speed takes priority over everything.

  7. Decisions get made hastily, and mistakes go uncorrected.

  8. It becomes unclear who is actually leading and where we are headed.

  9. Persuasion becomes impersonal and irrelevant.

  10. People don't know how to talk to each other.

Talk about seller development
The seller applicationExplore skills for sellers

The first four skills help you work with deal information. The final three help you communicate and connect with the buyer.

01Attention ManagementGive the right buyer and opportunity your full attention.

A pipeline can be full of activity that leads nowhere. As AI makes it easier to generate leads and outreach, sellers need to filter distractions and focus on the opportunity in front of them. We develop the discipline to distinguish productive attention from simply staying busy.

02Active Listening & DiscoveryFind the real need behind the first request.

Buyers may begin with a symptom, a feature request, or a budget line. Close listening helps sellers understand what sits behind that opening request. A transcript can support the work; the seller remains responsible for noticing uncertainty, asking thoughtful follow-up questions, and checking their understanding.

03Critical Thinking & Needs AnalysisAssess the opportunity and understand where you can create value.

Not every opportunity deserves the same investment. Sellers need to assess a deal, distinguish what the buyer needs from what they initially ask for, and recognize when to walk away from an opportunity that is a poor fit. We develop the judgment to direct effort toward work where there is a meaningful match.

04Prioritization & Pipeline ManagementPut your time and energy where they can make a difference.

A full pipeline isn’t the same as a healthy one. More leads, touchpoints, and data make it essential to decide where time belongs. We help sellers prioritize opportunities, make deliberate choices about next steps, and bring focus to pipeline management.

05Clear and Concise CommunicationMake your value clear without overwhelming the buyer.

A longer proposal or a more detailed deck does not guarantee a buyer’s attention. Sellers need to distill a complex offering into a clear, compelling value case. We develop communication that respects the buyer’s time and makes the reason to act easy to understand.

06Influence & NegotiationHelp buyers decide with confidence while protecting value.

Product knowledge and analysis are part of the conversation. Sellers also need to frame information around the buyer’s priorities, work through concerns, and negotiate thoughtfully. We develop the ability to support a clear decision while protecting the value of the offering.

07Executive Presence & Emotional IntelligenceBring confidence, composure, and awareness to the live conversation.

Email and automated outreach still lead to moments when a buyer is deciding whether to trust the person in front of them. Sellers need to read the situation, stay composed under pressure, and respond with awareness. We develop these skills for the conversations where relationships and decisions take shape.
